Emerging Trends in 2015 – Part I

Everyone dreams to possess a dream home. A home with exceptional amenities, palatial and something that no one has ever seen before. Everyone wants to be hip and be in trend with current vogues. The latest trends in design can help distinguish one home from another. And it’s not all flash; there are many new home fads geared to pare maintenance and energy use. We all look for space to facilitate physical ease and visual delights in a home. Interiors, colours, fixtures, furniture and other elements define the appearance of a home. Here’s a look at what’s coming.

1.Colour – The hue that a home is set in defines its interiors as well as the exteriors. Colour is that element that can directly affect your mood. Traditionally, people go in for calming colours. We think people like the idea of cozying up in the hues of the deepest shades. Each colour brings in a new way to add richness and drama to the home’s appeal. Coral shade is the colour of the year 2015. Sophisticated and youthful, the colour reflects optimism about the future in the atmosphere. You can use it outside or on an accent wall.

2.Open spaces – This one still is a classic. An open floor plan has been loved by many since the medieval era. During the olden days, every hut would have an open space right outside. But with the land crunch in big cities, it’s becoming a wish beyond. One way to achieve this is to remove all walls for greater togetherness and accessibility.

3.Freestanding tubs - Freestanding tubs may conjure images of Victorian-era opulence, but the newest iteration is the addition of an elegant sculptural tap. The tubs complement other bathroom trends: open wall niches and single wash basins. Opting in for a tub in the bedroom too is fast pacing trend of 2015. As there is something unspeakably luxurious about being able to roll out of bed into a deep tub or the other way around!

4.Flooring – Flooring adds function and character in a home. While granite still appeals, quartzite is becoming the new runner, as it a natural stone that’s practically indestructible. It also more closely resembles the most luxe classic—marble. And that too without the drawbacks of staining easily. Quartzite is moving ahead of last year’s favourite, quartz, which is also strong but is manmade. It is highly utilitarian and durable.

5.Security – With many indulging in securing their homes, technologies such as web-controlled security cameras and motion sensors for pets are becoming affordable. Newer models are occupying shelves as they are easier to install and operate. Many are powered by batteries, which do not require you to trust an electrician to rewire an entire house.

6.Charging spaces – With electronic devices high in demand, their shrinking sizes and the proliferation of Wi-Fi, demand for large desks and separate home office is waning. However, it is best to have a dedicated space for charging everyone’s devices so as to avoid the harmful radiations. The most popular locations are a corner of a kitchen, dining table or entrance from the garage, and the mud room. Altering them into a space solely as charging station would help keep the house clutter free.
